Dr. Kongkrit Chaiyasate’s professional journey spans fourteen years. He is an expert in craniofacial reconstruction, cancer reconstruction, face, jaw, and ear reconstruction using microvascular free tissue transfer, rhinoplasty and nasal reconstruction, pediatric plastic surgery, and lymphedema surgery. Moreover, he is one of only a few surgeons in Michigan qualified to perform perforator flap breast reconstruction techniques such as DIEP (Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator), SIEA (Superior Inferior Epigastric Artery), SGAP (Superior Gluteal Artery Perforator) flap, IGAP (Inferior Gluteal Artery Perforator) flap, and TUG (Transverse Upper Gracilis) flap. Kongkrit Chaiyasate, MD, FACS, attended Chiang Mai Medical School in Thailand, and received his medical degree in 1998. Then, he served his general surgery residency at the same teaching venue prior to relocating to the United States. In the United States, Dr. Chaiyasate conducted his internship and general surgery residency at Ascension Providence Hospital (2001-2007) and his plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University School of medicine (2007-2009). He is fellowship trained in craniofacial surgery and pediatric plastic surgery at St. Louis Children’s Hospital (2010) and reconstructive microsurgery and DIEP flap breast reconstruction at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and The James Cancer Center (2011).
